In Play
What is it?
A softball event built for connection over competition.
If you’re looking to grow your social circle, you’re new to the city, your friend group has scattered, or you’re ready to be part of something again – this is for you.
In Play gives you a structured, low pressure way to reconnect while doing something active.
For a few hours, you will be part of a team. You’ll be outside, moving your body, getting fresh air, and spending time with others.
The day will include two casual 45 minute softball games, bbq lunch, and plenty of time for relaxing or socializing.
Why it works
Softball is laid back, but it still brings people together around a shared activity.
When you’re playing on the same team, conversation happens naturally without needing to force it.
It works for a wide range of people, because you don’t need to be fast, strong, or experienced to take part.
There’s no pressure to perform, compete, or be social in a certain way. You can participate at whatever level feels comfortable.
Is this for me?
In Play is for adults who want something to do while being social.
It’s a good fit if you:
don’t want to show up to a social event and feel awkward
are coming on your own, with a partner, or with friends
like being outside and moving around a bit
want a relaxed, low-pressure way to meet new people
are curious about softball but don’t want to join a league
If you’re looking for something easygoing, organized, and active, this is for you.

FAQs
Is this a league?
No. In Play is a one-day event, not an ongoing league. There’s no season or weekly commitment.
Do I need experience?
You should be familiar with the basic rules of softball and able to swing a bat, catch, and throw a ball.
You don’t need to be especially skilled or fast. The games are designed so casual and returning players can take part comfortably.
If you’re brand new to softball, our Starter Series is a better place to begin. It’s designed to teach the basics in a slower, more instructional setting.
Can I come alone?
Yes. Many people attend on their own. You’ll be placed on a team and included right away.
Is this competitive?
Scores are kept and a winning team is noted, but the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed.
The focus is on playing together and enjoying the day, not on winning. It’s common for teams to cheer each other on and keep things light.
What if I’m nervous or out of shape?
That’s completely normal. You can take part at your own pace and step out whenever you need a break.
How does pitching work?
In Play uses three-pitch rules, which means players pitch to their own team. This keeps the game moving and makes it easier for everyone to hit and take part.
Do I need to bring equipment?
No. Bats and balls are provided.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothes you can move in and running shoes.
Is alcohol allowed?
No. Alcohol is not permitted at Coronation Park.
What happens if it rains?
Weather plans will be shared in advance if conditions change.
