Why I Started Head Out Toronto

I created it because I needed it to exist. As far as I knew, there was no social club designed specifically for people in their 40s.

I created a space for people in their 30s and 40s, and I called it Head Out Toronto.

I don’t know if I am the standard or the exception, but when I turned forty, I didn’t feel old. I mean, I felt old, but I didn’t feel old. My body was fine, but the voice in my head was screaming “Book your prostate exam, you’re old now!”

And worst still, I am hearing about my other friends lamenting over turning 30. Thirty!

Society telling people they are old at the age of 30 is the biggest lie we need to set straight.

I cannot fathom how someone in their thirties could be old. Up until that age, life is just learning the ropes.

I wanted to see what kind of demand was out there for exactly what I was building, so I hosted a charity softball game. The event planning snowballed from there and became softball tournament days and social bar outings. A place for people in their 30s and 40s to hang out and not feel like the oldest person there.

The softball events are also geared towards millennials and Gen X who aren’t done playing. No playing softball, just playing.

Head Out Toronto was born from my desire to keep an active social life at any age, and it continues because of all the people who have shown me that they feel the same way.
